A hurricane watch is issued for coastal Louisiana and Mississippi as Hurricane Ida trudges through the Gulf of Mexico toward the U.S. Ida, which killed 54 people in El Salvador, has grown into a Category 2 storm. Weather officials say Ida could reach the U.S. Gulf Coast next week.

Alleged Seattle Cop Killer is 'Terrorist'

Seattle authorities say Christopher Monfort, a 41-year-old man accused of killing a police officer, is also responsible for the bombing of four police cars. Monfort, described as a "lone domestic terrorist" by Seattle Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel, is in serious condition after being shot by officers in a confrontation on Friday.
